Really supportive department with largely friendly consultant body. Great mix of support and independence as core trainee. No night shifts, 1 in 6 weekends with odd weekday 8am - 8pm shift covering CEPOD. Great atmosphere within department which it’s well known for, feel valued as a trainee. Interesting patient demographic. Would fully recommend.
Excellent experience in core anaesthetics. Enjoyable ICU with lots of variety. Ward round overload sometimes (AM round, Micro round, MDT, PM round). Unique exposure to spinal patients and burns.
Only reason to do anaesthetics here is to get as little clinical exposure as possible which does make it a good time to sit the exams, allows you to be a book smart but clinically poor doctor. A fantastic introduction to anaesthetics (coupled with Oxford long-days and women's centre). The team are close knit but friendly, and everyone seems so keen that you get the most out of your training.
