Absolute joke of a department and "training" rotation. Turned up on changeover day with no departmental induction and then proceeded straight into the ward round - no organised induction over this rotation. Socioeconomically deprived area of Birmingham with a diverse patient population - can add to the challenge but ultimately makes this more interesting and does create learning opportunities e.g. women with FGM, the extremities of pathology. Really nice supportive department. Team is small (7 Consultants, 3 SpRs, 1 ST and 1 F2) so you get to know each other really well although the job can get quite busy if there are only 1 or 2 of you in. ENT was amazing here. You’re on the on-call rota whether you’re F1 or F2, and with time get to perform a number of procedures. You could be packing and cauterising an epistaxis case, or independently using an FNE on a patient in ED. Seniors are great, and offer countless opportunities to teach you all things ENT.
