ENT: Did six months prior to COVID so things probably changed. Consultants very supportive, most Thursday mornings there was SHO level operations (Tonsils, grommets etc) and could attend theatre on other days without an issue. Lists in designated ENT theatres occurred pretty much everyday. There were no assigned clinic days but you could pop down and join whenever you wanted.
The above depended on the cover on the ward.
Most of the time the unit was busy with lots of inpatients. There were daily SpR led WR and consultants would attend more often than not.
You share a rota with FY2s and GPSTs.
Very busy on-call - expect to be busy for the whole 12 hours. Sometimes you will be stuck in minors for most of the day (don't expect any help- cannulas, bloods etc.). If you can manage the on-call here you can boss it anywhere.
Nights and weekends you cover thoracics too, workload is therefore big but their registrars are helpful. Imagine a bit daunting if you've never done thoracics but at least you're not an FY2!
Would definitely recommend.
Side note
- From what I overheard whilst working here...avoid general surgery at all costs. Absolutely awful training and toxic workplace.
