This was easily my favourite job so far. The department is very friendly, supportive, and inclusive, making it incredibly easy to feel a part of the team. All members of within the MDT were fantastic and lovely. I will never forget the kindness and wholesome nature of the whole department.
You spend the morning in ITU completing the daily reviews and WR, and afternoons are normally for theatre time with the anaesthetists. There is a fair number of opportunities to perform procedures such as intubation, LMA insertion, and other airway manoevres. Opportunities for A-line and central lines come infrequently which can be frustrating.
I really miss the team so much, and I hope to go back one day.
Foundation Programme Year One (FY1)
Borders General Hospital
Overall great. Excellent team and very supportive consultants. Behind the times in terms of using paper notes and kardexes with some slightly dysfunctional patient flows.
Great deal of independence OOH but always with some form of escalation if required. Fy1s dont do take shifts in hours but there is opportunity to see some admissions if wards are quiet.
