There is a locker room to change into your scrubs etc No doctors' mess but there are rest room with beds for doctors to sleep during the night which is handy.
Not had any issues with car park as most people here would avoid coming to Causeway for admission.
All paper based with the exception of radiology request. What do you expect, its Northern Ireland.
Again you need to remind yourself you're in Northern Ireland so public transport is very scarce.
Very good, and affordable. One of the few good things I can say about Causeway Hospital. Canteen stops serving lunch just before 2pm & dinner just before 6pm.
Coleraine is quite a depressing town, not much to do. Most doctors travel to the North Coast for social activities and also to drown out their misery of having to work here.
Avoid at all costs. As an IMT you will be the most senior doctor on the medical team OOH. This involves running the cardiac arrest team and stroke lysis calls. The medical take bleep is usually held by an FY2. The facilities are good and the hospital is not particularly busy. However there are extremely poor locum senior doctors in ICU and A&E th ...More
A depressing place, very isolated, far from anywhere, car is essential, train or coach take ages. Teaching by humiliation/intimidation/dragging down is commonplace, most middle grades appear disgruntled and are not approachable. Was warned about some staff members' (plural) extremely bad attitude towards juniors before even starting there, such a s ...More
Incredibly poor senior support, and even when present are reluctant to make decisions. Regularly results in be very junior team members having to make decisions instead. Incredibly stressful and toxic department.
No regs in this hospital. It's a small DGH with little onsite service so many patients need transferred i.e. patients need an ambulance to another hospital for MRI and back again! Consultants are available by phone but overnight an FY1s normally managing the wards while the FY2 or GPST1 are clerking patients/in resus. Food is good in the canteen ...More
Causeway is one of the most pressured hospitals in the UK, and it's staffing and work experience reflects that. The on call team OOH is made up of an IMT1+ or locum SHO (not uncommon to find Locum FY3s landing into an advertised FY2 role to find themselves with the on call pager three days in), FY2 and an FY1. For that you have to cover medical pa ...More
