Endocrinology was horrible. Faced racism and the consultants were not supportive. I have witnessed my BAME colleagues being targeted and it was really painful to watch. I am glad I shifted to Oncology (best department). However, you get clinic and research opportunities as long as you keep ignorant of people's attitude.
Overall wouldnt recommend future trainees to work in Endocrine at Gloucester.

Challenging department, lots of COTE wards and variable experience between them.
generally friendly consultants and nursing staff but very rare to have adequate junior staffing during the week, usually leave late, and a few wards where senior support is poor. Strong effort from department to have weekly programme of teaching but difficult to access both formal teaching and informal teaching on rounds due to staffing. Would not work here again, even though lots of the permanent staff are very nice.

Overall really enjoyed it - very busy and a bit chaotic but great bosses, lots of procedures and plenty of independence. A tough SHO rota for on calls and sometimes tricky with understaffed reg rotas.

The good is good and departmentally, better than most others in the trust. The bad is more related to training in the hospital in general, and the usual rota/HR management side of things. Friendliness deserves 5* and would get 10 if allowed.
