Surprisingly functional. A very busy DGH with some random tertiary level care (eg urology, has PPCI). Pros Good balance of responsibility and support. Feel like a confident SHO coming out of the foundation programme. FY1s have a decent amount of responsibility (eg covering several wards overnight) with senior support available if needed - expected to have at least done basics prior to escalating so good learning. Good mix of specialties available for foundation programme - most things are done in-house. Train to London is <25mins People are generally much friendlier/lack ego compared to London Cons Feels underfunded - horrendous IT system (Lorenzo) Outdated decor Lowish locum rates (better than london, worse than some local hospitals) Service provision > real training Not a very tight-knit community - split of London commuters and some local towns Terrible canteen/food options/amenities
