Great learning experience, generally well supported. However……..workload can be very cumbersome, Moorfields needs to cater for the millennial generation!! Too much service provision, it often feels we are propping up gaps on rotas. The emergency department run roughshod over the hospital, their needs are met above anything and everyone. The glaucoma service is notorious for its abuse of trainees rota, too much casualty too many clinics. Finally, a simple yet important aspect that could be changed is hiring dedicated rota co-ordinators. The current system involves discussing leave/sickness/rotas with the senior fellow which is fine until they need you to support the service. (Perhaps this is an intentional evil from the powers that be at MEH).
