Awful. Little-no gynae experience despite being billed as obs & gynae. Lots of time spent in theatre assisting with c-sections and writing unnecessary discharge summaries for patients in GAU. Handful of consultants lovely but a couple of bad eggs with no interest in providing good training for GP. Avoid at all costs.
North Manchester General Hospital
Breast Surgery - Amazing rotation for CST, no ward work other than to review any post-op patients who stayed overnight or abscesses. Lots of clinic time and a lot of theatre experience and can improve skills quickly but limited opportunity to work towards level 2+ procedures. Friendly consultant team
General surgery - infrequent theatre and clinic time for SHOs who have to do a lot of ward work in the week (but the inpatient workload isn’t so high). Not much operating lists as benign centre only and cases get cancelled #covid
On-calls: cover urology (for 3 other hospitals) and general surgery, extremely busy, often have more patients to see than the medics, urology senior support is lacking. Saving grace is supportive general surgery on site SpR, and two surgery SHOs on days Monday-Thursday. On call frequency not too bad
Overall would recommend Breast but be wary of the on calls. General surgery is good if you want a chill life but not if you want training.
