Pros - Excellent staffing (3-4 SpRs and at least 6 SHOs overnight). - Good nursing staff (ODPs in resus are particularly excellent and can manage anything that comes in), most of the time bloods/cannulas/ECGs already done. - The department has refused to go back to corridor medicine post covid and has stuck with it (to its credit), this means they ...More
I was so happy when I joined as an ACCS trainee, and I have always wanted to do EM since I entered medical school. Unfortunately, this trust ruined my mental health. Unhealthy bullying by selected consultants almost made me cry. I left training because of QE :(
Excellent team and hugely complex case mix through the door, very supportive consultants and nursing leads. Downside, remember to take food with you if you’re on nights as no overnight hot food available
Supportive department, shout-out to Mr Monga who makes things run easy! Consultants are actually really nice. Bit more teamwork and friendliness would have made this a 5* review.
I worked in ED, there is a good induction and support but a lot of politics within the department. Almost all consults are good, but the one who are bad are really bully and they demean you in front of juniors and other colleagues. Even after escalating nothing is done and you’re invited for a coffee meeting with the person. Trust has an apparent ...More
Mixed experience working in ED. Always felt safe and supported - being a tertiary centre there are always people to ask, specialties are on site (and generally reasonable), lots of senior support. I never felt pressured to clerk faster etc, you go at your own speed. They have expanded the department (more than doubled resus) and increased staffing ...More
Very well supported with seniors from within emergency medicine and the majority of specialties available and approachable. Good exposure to a wide variety of patients, no paediatrics, however all medical and surgical specialties are here and their patients regularly present/are transferred as well as a considerable amount of trauma through the MT ...More
Very busy major trauma center. Rota is absolutely a nightmare 8-9 night shifts a month. To apply leaves you need to tell 6 months in advance and then also it will be rejected stating staffing issues. Overall well supported by seniors.
Great team, friendly and the rota is probably the best I’ve ever had. Proper induction and teaching throughout, well supported. Department physically small for size of hospital throws up a lot of challenges but great trauma exposure
