A good ward to work in overall. Supportive and good natured seniors, good staffing levels, workload is appropriate, rarely finishing late. General medical cover however, with 4 long days (Fri-Mon) on AMU appearing a few times in the rota can be very challenging. Often cover your own ward overnight without having to cover others as lots of overnight clerking, but stroke CNS and consultant review for each admission so well supported. Rota has no give overnight however so any sickness requires covering a busy ward with admissions + other general medical wards which can be very busy. Registrars will pressure to help with the take out of hours as AMU is very chaotic. Weekends occasionally require FY1 lead rounds for the old patients, but good support throughout, good learning experience. Only departmental teaching is neuroradiology MDT on Fridays, which is pitched above the level of the average foundation doctor.
