Good job overall supported but also encouraged appropriate independent decision making. However I often started early and stayed late.

This was a haematology, endocrine and rheumatology ward although general medical with younger/more complex patients in reality. All the consultants that are still there were very supportive, actively made time for teaching and cups of tea and cake. Staffing could be short at times but nursing team were great and overall I enjoyed this job. Good balance of trust from consultants but also leadership where needed. I was able to go to haematology clinic a couple of times which was useful.

Good team, broad experience and training opportunities. Brilliant first job of F1 to get the ball rolling.

I worked there both as F1 and F2. As F1 we were very much left on the ward to manage but our skills not really trusted by seniors, however there were 4 of us and it was quite enjoyable due to the sociability. As F2 the SHO role was very different. I wasn't keen on theatres and lacked confidence here but despite trying to get stuck in and learn felt my confidence decrease in this area. However, I really enjoyed the oncalls as the person attending A+E with non-resident reg for advice.

Difficult department for booking leave, getting rota on time, but consultants all friendly and work relatively well divided, reasonable staffing levels

Great team but department tiny for size of hospital can make a challenging physical environment. Not enough computers or space to see people, but very on it with leave, breaks, training and teaching
