Completely unsupported. The F1 and F2s work together to do all ward work. They consultants/registrars/PAs are essentially a completely seperate team with no interaction barring ward rounds. Awful job. You will learn next to nothing about T+O. But it may well still be better option than working in vascular or gen surg at the QE...
Management seem to hate doctors in this hospital. Frequent rota gaps particularly at sho level. Chaotically mismanaged theatre utilisation meaning what little allocated theatre days spent hanging around mostly. No facilities. Would not work here again.
Very unsupported foundation job. The consultants and registrars seem to have little to no interest in discussing anything with the foundation doctors that is not 100% an orthopaedic problem and are generally dismissive of concerns. I had no theatre or clinic timetabled as an F2. Some F2s will take the opportunity to never come to the ward however ...More
Pure ward work with no orthopaedic teaching and experience. If there are rota gaps, NOTHING is ever done about it. This hospital refuses to bring in external locums no matter how bad the staffing is. The orthopaedic surgeons are pleasant enough by and large but will not help with issues on the ward (I can think of one exception in my 4 months here) ...More
Woefully unsupported by the parent team with lightning-fast ward rounds and seniors too preoccupied with being in theatre than caring about the patients on the ward. Good camaraderie between foundation doctors and nurses on the whole though. Do not expect to get any actual orthopaedic experience as an FY on this rotation - it is all ward work.
