Decent. Tea and coffee making facilities. TV, couches to sleep on, 3 computers in the mess and one phone.
Free for staff. Car park gets very busy, but usually spaces are available before 9am.
Clerking, ward rounds, reviews by MDT members and specialities, most request forms and prescribing are still done by paper. Bloods and imaging results are checked electronically. Heavy usage of careportal. Hospital utilises bleeps, no DECT phones. Emergency phones are Mobiles and are held by the Med Reg, Hospital@Night ANPs and medical SHO
Bus stop at the doorstep. No other public transport links. Significant walk to the train station, although regular buses operate to the city centre. No buses to the airport from Raigmore directly; however you can change in the city centre or take a fifteen minute walk through Raigmore estate to catch the bus from Millburn Road. Otherwise, it will...More
No canteen overnight. Only certain hours. No theatre greens when buying food. Accepts contactless payments. Scones are legendary and often sell out quickly.
A lot of doctors live in the accommodation, some in the immediate area (avoid Raigmore estate). Pub opposite the road which has a Thursday evening quiz night. 24hour Tesco and McDonalds drive through nearby.
Considered a DGH but doesn’t feel overly small. Spent most amount of time covering general surgery and orthopaedics (due to rota) but urology, vascular and paeds patients were often under general surgery’s care. Pros: - All FY1s know each other, sometimes live together in the hospital accommodation and do activities and social gatherings. Good ...More
Awful place to work, wouldn't go back. Massively understaffed and useless management make no effort to improve this and vilify anyone who tries. Either the employment pool of the highlands is to small to allow any job competition, or management are afraid of promoting anyone with any competence in case they end up being promoted above them. Either ...More
I worked here as a CDF. Overall the experience was quite mixed, sadly slightly more negative than positive. The CDF program was split six months in Inverness and six months at a peripheral hospital (Shetland, western isles, Fort William, etc) This is only for the Raigmore placement. In those six months you rotate two months ward based, two months ...More
Worked here pre-COVID as an FY1. One of my favourite jobs of foundation program. Great team spirit. Nursing staff here are just amazing and incredibly helpful, supportive and kind. Made some really good friends here. Good socials too! Charge nurse was a bit odd and treated you a bit like a child and had strange rules about not bringing hot drinks ...More
Overall a good place to train and build up your clinical confidence and acumen. Due to how remote the hospital is, you often get to know a lot of the medics in the area. Acute medicine is based on the ground floor (receiving) which takes either patients from ED or those referred from the community. During my time all the documentation was paper ...More
