You won’t get parking a parking pass ( have to pay still) so you can access car parks as a trainee regardless of how or where you live and what shifts you are on.
IT system is very slow, outdated. There’s always something going on with the IT system.
Southend’s general transport is “the worst” you’d ever experience.
The food is “expensive” and tastes garbage. Plus the cafeteria staff is kind of racist. They are very subtle about it though.

It’s hard to think of any positives for this department. Urology is severely understaffed making workload almost unbearable. This is exacerbated by a very toxic work environment, where junior doctors ultimately pay the price for Consultant’s personal issues with each other. Teaching/training is virtually nonexistent, while going to theatre as an F ...More
Useless training. The consultant team aren’t all proper consultants so have no idea about what training actually is and what is required. Some aren’t ever on the shop floor or actually never do clinical work but then comment and make decisions about clinical incidents with no sense of reality. . They do scans on everyone and bloods on everyone whic ...More
People are generally very nice. My rotations in FY1 were T&O, Acute Medicine & Gastroenterology. T&O: not too bad, did not learn much, on calls were basically me helping out the SHO with clerking etc. Some consultants can be a bit iffy. Nursing staff not the most competent. I had various experiences were I was dealing with very sick patients alone ...More
This department has a serious racism issue. They make ample opportunities for select trainees that look and sound like the entirety of the consultant body. Serious concerns about bullying, harassment and racism have been escalated to the GMC.
Amazing place for core surgical training - cannot recommend enough. Supportive consultants and registrars where training is valued highly. Consultants get along well which makes for a pleasant general surgical department. Breast team is very supportive and operating lists on 3 days a week. On calls can be busy but typically include a lot of time in ...More
