The environment on gastroenterology ward was horrible. We juniors were bullied by the registrar, nurses and receptionist openly. The managers were well aware of the situation but they took no action to deal with it. There was limited time for anything else on the ward but work. The registrar was back biting the consultants all the time and dis regarding their plans. My supervisor was very supportive of this bully registrar and protected him for his ruthless behaviour.

As FY2/GPST your get placed at beginning of shift into major, minors, respiratory/covid zone or paeds. Sometimes there is opportunity to move to resus with supervision of reg or consultant. In hours, a consultant is always around to discuss plans with - albeit some more useful than others. Shift is 10 hour - starting at 8am, 9am, noon or 9pm. Good: friendly team, good support in hours, busy department with learning opportunities, always released for foundation teaching, timetabled SDT/QI time, good doctor's mess, supportive med ed team. Bad: over night staffing, departmental teaching non-existent, lots of nights/weekends

Salary not paid on time. Not given appropriate induction. No teaching environment. Poor staffing. Would not want to be a patient there, lack evidence based medicine approach regarding clinical decisions. Overall do not recommend
