FY1 Medicine + Surgery. Often evening ward rounds by consultants (both medicine and surgery) leave the FY1 scrambling to complete jobs (including discharges) before the end of the day. Frequent phlebotomy staff shortages means that morning bloods are routinely rationed, and since nurses and support workers are not 'trained' or cannot be bothered to do bloods, it falls on the FY1 to do these in addition to the jobs generated from the ward round, often leading to patients' care being delayed due to bloods being missed. Little in the way of actual training. No time in the rota for any development opportunities whatsoever. No exposure to theatre during the surgical block (despite PAs attending ward rounds then immediately leaving for theatre regularly). Hospital-wide grand rounds are great, but FY1-specific teaching is full of 'resilience' training and FY1-led teaching sessions. Very friendly FY2s and IMTs/CSTs, almost all of whom were a pleasure to work with.
