Friendly o&g team, midwives are generally pleasant to work with (minus the odd one or two that wouldn’t trust your opinion). A steep learning curve with not much induction, be prepared to know where to find guidelines when you’re stuck & unable to find the busy reg.

Really great learning experience. Consultants are all very approachable and friendly. Not much clinical responsibly as in foundation training. Good teaching environment, my favourite rotation.

Chronically poor staffing meaning often one to two f1 doctors staffing entire wards of 20-24 patients. Unfriendly wider healthcare team unwilling to assist any colleagues despite staff shortages. Would often stay until 7pm on NWDs to ensure jobs all complete (in spite of coming earlier to assist consultants post-taking their patients on the wards as part of their in-reach), and leaving at 9pm on an NWD was not uncommon. Consultants were mostly kind and understanding, often making themselves available when they were on call on weekends, and would review every patient on their ward-rounds. Registrars were extremely supportive, patient and competent, and would also often stay late to assist with the ward round and jobs. Not an educational experience at all and these positives do not make up for the inadequacies in training. I didn’t learn very much at all in my time on gastro here.
