Weekly free pizza on a Friday. Enough space to relax but a very basic space. Mess is a portacabin.
Free staff parking at present with plenty of spaces if you can get a permit… just get there before 9am.
Blood requests and Radiology all online. Smartcard usage to access patient GP records - very useful for accurate PMHx. Now moving towards Sunrise EPR, most wards already changed over, but will still be paper prescribing for some time.
Worcester Shrub Hill Train Station, modest 20-25 minutes walk to the hospital. X38 bus from town to the hospital. Comes every 20 minutes.
Staff canteen expensive for what it is and only open 08:00-1700. Costa available until 18:00.
Junior Doctors live in Redditch or Worcester. Some can live in Birmingham if have family there but is a minimum 40 minute drive.
Beautiful new department built - resus and paeds ED in particular lovely and a massive improvement on previous, however as per standard still not enough beds/room. Long waits for beds and on occasion specialties. Can be very chaotic overnight, boarding patients in resus and significantly unwell patients in waiting room awaiting beds - but this is ...More
Fairly stressful environment due to horrendous flow and overcrowding; 10-15 regularly in the corridor (so normalised that it has now become its own ED area with allocated staff etc). Really unpleasant and undignified to assess people in the corridor, but at least they're in beds unlike the 80 year olds or NEWS 6 in the waiting room for 18 hours wai ...More
Incredibly challenging environment to work in due to poor hospital flow - often difficult to find areas to assess patients. That being said, shortly to move to a new building which may help? Exit block to the rest of hospital. It feels like the department is waiting room for essentially everywhere else and there's a lack of ownership from special ...More
First job as an FY1 doctor. Very busy but learnt a lot on the job. Consultants are really friendly and we have a good team. Nurses are good and help with jobs such as bloods and cannulas. Despite being busy it was a very relevant speciality as you see a lot of Resp cases in A&E as part of clerking so feel more confident with investigating and imple ...More
Certain senior wider healthcare team members colleagues created a hostile work environment and at times lied to doctors about what jobs were expected of them- not helpful during a pandemic when these staff members prioritised themselves over their patients. A disgustingly run ward delivering poor patient care. Consultants were friendly (for the m ...More
