Really enjoyed working here. You're eased into the job and you start only post taking with the consultants. Eventually they give you more responsibility and you review patients by yourself who have already been post taked. Everyone gets discussed at board round which has multiple consultants present and you present your patients and your plan. so it's super well supported. Downside of the job is it's more general medicine than acute medicine as there's not much patient flow so some patients do stay for several days. formal teaching also didn't happen often but our regs were really keen on teaching and made up for it. Other positives are all the nurses were really nice and sensible, rota was ok, generally well staffed, infrequently needed to stay late, hospital is really friendly.

A very friendly and supportive department in a 10 bedded DGH ICU. Sensible rota and workload is very manageable. Consultants and registrars are on the whole very easy to work with and supportive. Nurses, pharmacists, physios, dietitians are great at what they do and are helpful too.
Drawbacks are the quality of the medicine practiced can occasionally be dubious, which can be frustrating. The lack of in-house support for many different specialties - neurology, microbiology, vascular, renal etc.- can make referrals and transfer of care tricky. Regular teaching is not really a thing, although there are plans to change this. Rotas and booking leave is generally okay, although there can be sudden unexpected changes to the rota due to poor planning.
